Course Overview:
Emergency First Responder is a basic training course in emergency care. CPR and other important emergency care skills are combined into one eight hour course which allows the graduate to function with one consistant set of priorities in a medical emergency. Students learn the same priorities of care and approach to the patient used by professionals. This approach results in a continuity of care as the patient is passed on to a paramedic, nurse, or doctor.
Emphasis in the EFR program is on the development of seven basic skills of care: Primary Assesment, One Rescuer CPR, Obstructed Airway Maneuvers, Control of Bleeding, Shock Management, and Illness Assessments. These skills are taught in seven modules with each module being divided into segments. Each segment of learning reinforces the priorities of care and approach to the patient. EFR training uses seeing, hearing, and doing to make learning easier and more enjoyable. Numerous uses of the information in practise sessions help create retention. As a result, students develop confidence in thier ability to perform these simple skills in an actual emergency.
Required for rescue diver certification, master diver certification, and divemaster programs.
