The term "dive computer" is one of several terms used along with "decompression meter", and "decompression computer", or "deco meter". But the dive computer is what it is, a computer. Since its arrival it has become a very important part of the gear you will use. But understanding how a "dive computer" works is something that every diver should learn to understand. The dive computer does not replace "dive planning" but should be used in addition to dive planning.
